2007 Contra Costa NPC Figure, Fitness and Bodybuilding Championships Review by Juan Carlos Lopez

Brie Zentil

Hayward was again the host to this yearly event, Chabot College embracing again a group of bodybuilders and figure/fitness competitors. The event was going to be smaller and including many people from the bay area. Some flew in from Southern California but only a few them.

The event began around 10am and consisted of a similar format as all NPC shows. Figure was not very full but it had some competitors that will be strong contenders for the USA's as competitors in this region usually take on this show as their first national level experience. Class A met Brie Zentil who with a great shape and extremely nice condition took the class. Akane Nigro fell second to her but also with an amazing shape. Brie's condition is what set her apart. Class

Christine Burton

B was taken by Christine Burton who would do damage in other parts of the show besides open figure. Nice shape and decent condition took her to the first place trophy, second to her Megan Rogers who also had a similar build. In class B Kasey Wiederspan was the biggest revelation, a first show with that kind of physique was incredible. Not only her physique marveled people but even other women admired her looks. She has a bright future if she does decide she wants to compete again.

Danyell Leavitt

Class C was taken by Danyell Leavitt who will be competing at USA's as she lives in Vegas. Monica Brennan took second barely edging the winner and Tanya Merryman took third. Tanya was great legs probably up the level of a Monica Brant or Juliana Malacarne but its just her upper body that she needs to bring up. Noteworthy was the comeback of Lakiesha Williams who made great improvements and in 6th Jessica Troha who would take revenge a few weeks later at the California State.

In the tallest class, D, Michelle Batista with a

nice balance took the class. Laurie Mahoney taking second behind her. Noteworthy to many people was Mary Ann Graves as her looks were very attractive to the cameras. The Overall went to Christine Burton as she represents more of the status quo of what the NPC wants. Brie looked stunning but its perhaps Burton's softer look that got her the overall.

Masters' Figure was a short story, Christine Burton won and took home another overall trophy. Rhonda Cordano who has great looks also made an appearance in this category. Michelle Shepard took first in class B but couldn't beat Burton. Robin Gizzi took Masters over 45 and she did over a well conditioned Patricia Ward.

Fitness only presented one competitor, Shelly Garlitos as the other competitor withdrew from the competition.

Now bodybuilding was taken by Kelly Dobbins who redeemed herself from the Emerald Cup. Connie Holt took middle weights as she was the only one. And Danielle Guevara with better conditioning won over Tammy Jackson. Tammy got her revenge later at the Cal State but she has even more potential for other things such as more mainstream work.
