20 Questions with Cover Model Kristen Davis

Kristen Davis

1) Please introduce yourself? What makes you special? Who is Kristen Davis?

I'm Kristen Davis, and a total softie for dogs, I have three rescue pups, a teacup poodle named Savannah and two pitbulls named Jank and Zyra.

2) Please tell us a bit about your family, friends and surroundings?

I come by being a crazy dog lady naturally, my mom, who i look just like, has five dogs. Both of my parents and my boyfriend Derek are incredibly supportive of my bodybuilding and I could not be more thankful for that!

3) How did you start competing in bikini?

People were always asking if I competed so having no idea what I was doing I got on stage a year ago and took 7th, and after that I was hooked!

4) What is your personal policy (not what the judges want) about conditioning and muscularity when coming into a show? Soft or hard?

Hard! All day for sure!

5)  What is your idea of what judges want in a Bikini competitor? Do you think judges are clear enough with competitors about how they want you on stage? It seems in Europe they are very clear unlike in the USA and now in Canada things are confusing.

I don't think the judges are very clear on what they want exactly and I kind of like that! I work on my body for me and if I take home trophies that's just an added perk, as long as I know I brought my best body to the stage I'm happy!

6) For the next shows what do you think you need to work on physique-wise/conditioning-wise? If anything!

I definitely want to come in leaner and my booty bigger, because come on who doesn't want a bigger butt!!

7) What is your typical training routine in the gym (per day, include sets and reps!) How much cardio do you do before a show?

I try (try being the key word) to spend 20 minutes on the stair master 5 days a week, some times I just spend 20 minutes complaining about the stair master instead. Kidding! Kinda. I always alter my workout routine to how I'm feeling and how my body is looking, but closer to shows I always start to ease off the heavy weight a bit and go to exhaustion on reps.

8) What is your pre-contest diet? (per day, 1 week before the show)

Turkey, turkey, and more turkey! Also raw asparagus and brown rice, but the night before the filet minion makes it all so worth it!

9) How do you go about dropping your water before the day of the show? How much water do you drink the day of the show. Please be specific.

Three days before I drop from drinking 2 gallons to 1.5, then two days out I drop to 1 gallon, the day before I drink half a gallon, and the day of I try to just sip on water when I eat.

10) What motivates you to train/diet and compete? Are there any competitors you looked up to?

I love pushing myself to be my best and watching my body transform, it really is addicting! I definitely have a huge girl crush on Wendy Fortino!

11) Please tell us an interesting experience you had at a show recently, be it a fun thing or something rather not so fun?

At the Dallas Europa one of the other competitors shoes broke so I lent her mine, and then at the Branch Warren Classic I managed to lose one of my shoes, low carb gives me the dumb, and another competitor let me borrow hers! I was warned the other competitors would be catty but I've found nothing but amazing friends!

12) What is your personal opinion about the figure, fitness, bodybuilding industry we are in? Anything you would like to see changed?

I really love the industry, it brings such joy to me to see all these people all actively working so hard to be the best possible versions of themselves!

13) What has been your hardest challenge to overcome either in your personal life or competing career?

The hardest part for me was cutting people out of my life who only brought negativity while I pursued my dreams, but it gets easier, because once you cut one negative person out and see how much better things get, dropping the rest is a piece of cake.

14) Did you make any changes to your contest prep for your last show? Water intake, carbing up, etc...

The only thing I changed was adding more cardio, yuck!

15) What do you think of bikini division?

I LOVE the bikini division and how competitive it is!

16) What are your favorite foods to eat right after you compete on a Saturday night?

Chocolate lava cake, bakalava, tres leches, lamb, and just about anything, I love food and my boyfriend's a chef so I definitely pig out!

17) Please tell us about how you were raised and did you have any interesting experiences while growing up?

I was raised by both of my parents who are so supportive of anything I try!

18) Do you have an athletic background? Gymnastics, soccer, volleyball or what?

I was not the least bit athletic growing up. I was involved in lots of sports and terrible at all of them!
