Pam Shealy NPC Bodybuilding

How did you get interested in working out/bodybuilding?

After college, I joined a gym in efforts to stay active and manage bodyweight. I fell in love with weight training. I discovered the world of bodybuilding when I attended a BB show with a friend. Instantly intrigued, I read everything I could find related to the sport. Later I was encouraged by gym members to compete.

What was your first show like? Any interesting experiences?

My goal was to enter an entry level show. However, the gyms owner, a former competitive FBB, encouraged me to enter the state showso, I did. At the time, I had no understanding of the levels of competition or really what I was doing. However, I won 1st in my class. My self-confidence was much improved after this show, especially since I achieved a goal through hard work, and not to mention, stepped on stage (Im rather shy) in a bikini.

What do you like and dislike about competing?

Bodybuilding is more a competition with self. It represents a personal journey of strengthening oneself physically, mentally, and spiritually. Preparing for competition and achieving my personal best on contest day is very empowering. I am very goal-oriented and I crave structure. I enjoy the satisfaction of achieving a goal through discipline, commitment, and passion for the sport. Dislike cardio. So much cardio.

What are your future goals in this industry?

I want to achieve professional status and compete at this level. I want to see Body Tech continue to grow and represent the best of fitness facilities.

What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

Hopefully, I will still be competing. Most definitely, Ill be in the gym, lifting weights. And, workingI feel blessed to be able to make a living doing the very thing I love. In short, everything Im doing now, but better.

Please tell us something special about you that most people wouldn't know?

I have 2 graduate degrees: Med in Rehabilitation Counseling and MS in Exercise Physiology. I am an elected member of the SC Governors Council on Physical Fitness. And, I have 2 beautiful, highly intelligent, and very muscular (of course) English bulldogs.

Any additional notes? People you would like to thank?

My husband David, who as my best friend and #1 fan, has provided me with unconditional support, patience, and love. My coach and contest consultant, Ken Taylor, who has helped me reach new levels of training and conditioning. My parents. And, finally those friends and clients that have provided support and encouragement.
