2008 Emerald Cup Review by Juan Carlos Lopez

The best regional show in the world was brought again by Brad and Elaine Craig who do a great job with it. Not only the expo was great but also the organization of the show was great as well. The snow was a nice touch for this year and the cold weather didn't permit much shooting outdoors. So all in all it was a very different Emerald Cup.

Figure class A had a tight lineup, Nicki Pimm from Alberta took 1st with a nice balance and good conditioning. Jamie Costa took second she had the best conditioning but it seems like judges decided a softer look was more beneficial. Misi White took 3rd, Julie Lee took 4th and SF Bay Area's Shawna Kondo took 5th.

In Class b Chrissy Burton took the class and also the overall, she is a rising star that will be getting her card this year. Casey Jovan also looked very good and tight therefore took 2nd place. Kerri Simpson placed 3rd, Janae Stewart 4th and Sue Ellen Dent 5th.

Class C saw Alexandra Porshnikoff win the class over a very well shaped Terri Stevens. Allison Malone who was competed before at this show took 3rd, Jessica Norlander 4th and Glenna Viland 5th.

Class D was for Karin Kimura, Leslie Deucher took 2nd and was looking amazing, very good conditioning and great balance. Danyell Johnson aka Danny J took 3rd, Angie Corbin 4th and Joni Neilson who had great muscle took 5th.

Class E was for Kate Heath, Jennifer Sandberg 2nd, Michaela Xavier 3rd, Sacramento's Robin Sinclear 4th and Fiona Krug 5th.

Class F was rather large and was for Mendi Sakamoto who had competed last year. Catherine Holland ex-Boushizen took 2nd, Ginny Gardea 3rd and Lauren Huber 4th. Melissa Johnsen took 5th but presented a very competitive physique and well balanced.

Class G was the smallest and Mary Hallman took the class, Jessica Shannon 2nd, Hannah Ringholm 3rd, Kristianam McEllrath 4th and Allsyn Barrial 5th place.

Masters Figure was rather large and over 35 was for Melanie Burger, Lynn Fitzhum took 2nd and she has tons of potential. Brittany Simpson was one of the other noticeable ones in 3rd place. Over 40 was taken by Denise Dinger, Lori Pliska and Sheila Bratten. Over 50 was Diane Schwandt, 2nd place was for Robin Gizzi and 3rd Elizabeth Stevenson.

Now the fitness was the smallest this year, it seems it has been dying down everywhere. Paula Williams won over Debbie Fowler class A and class B was for Erin Nomura over Cinzia Clapp. Erin would win the overall here and also competed in Figure.

Bodybuilding was also smaller this year and again it will impact Nationals in size. Millie Cleveland came in conditioned with some good size and great conditioning. She took that Lightweight class and also the overall. Lisa Curry took 2nd place and Genevieve Moreno took 3rd, Moreno competed as well at the Arnold Amateur.
Middleweights was for Danni Craig, right after her Wendy Lindquist who was done also figure at this same show different year took 2nd.
Shawn Tan was the only heavyweight, the native from the province of BC in Canada did a very entertaining bat woman routine.

Masters Bodybuilding was for over 35 competitor Julie Assa who could easily compete in the open division and do major damage. Janet Guenther took the over 50 class and boy she does look much younger.
